Turning a Toothpick Holder Key Chain

Available in Woodturns Store
This pen kit and all of the tooling can be purchased in our online storefront.

This key chain is an easy project with many uses. You can use it as a convenient toothpick holder, emergency pill box, money holder, or a container for other small items. This article will explain through diagrams and instruction on how to turn and assemble this key chain.

Tooling Required

Preparing & Turning the Wood Blank

The wood blank for this pen should be approximately 5/8" x 5/8" x 2 3/8"" (16 mm x 16 mm x 60 mm). You can either purchase a blank this size, or you can cut your own.

Drill the blank with the 11 mm drill bit. Glue the tube in the blank and square the ends of the blank to the tube.

Mount the blank on the A-Mandrel with the 13A Bushings on both sides. You may need to put some spacer bushings (7mm 1A bushings) to keep the blank secure. Turn to the same thickness as the 13A bushings and finish.
